Best Season for Sports

What is the best season for sports? I'm not talking basketball season, baseball season, etc. I'm talking Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.

For me it's Fall.

Fall is the time of year where it seems that every sports is active. Of course just about everyone and their grandmother knows fall is football season, but it is also the baseball playoffs, NHL starts back up (yes it is still a sport), college basketball has something called Midnight Madness. Don't forget that the FedEx Cup for the PGA is going on and the Chase for the Sprint Cup is going on in NASCAR.

My second choice would be Spring, March Madness and MLB Opening Day is a pretty deadly combination.

So what season do you think is the best for sports?

Farewell Home Run Derby

I know this is a little late, but as they say, better late than never.

I would like to ask for everyone to bow their heads in a moment of silence for the Home Run Derby.

After this derby I must say that it is time to end this event and start a new one, when it takes over an hour for the first round to be completed it's time for a change.

Here is what I would like to see in place of the Home Run Derby:

Let's have a skills competition, here are some of the events that they could have:

1. Throwing accuracy for fields and pitchers. Let's go the NHL route and place targets on the field for player to throw at, outfielders have 5 throws to hit a target at home or 3rd base (as if some one was tagging up). Why not even have a tag up even while we are at it. Pitchers have to hit the corners of the strike zone.

2. Hitting accuracy, again targets with different point values for harder hits.

3. Mini home run derby, 2 players from each league, 10 pitches and that's it.

4. Base running, make it a timed event.

Points are awarded for each event, those points are added to the final score of the all star game the following night, just to give the NL a shot at winning one.

Any other suggestions for events?

My Football Playoff

After watching Utah win tonight, and go undefeated, I figured I would post about what I would like to see replace the BcS.

My model is similar to the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

I would like to see a 16 team playoff, with the teams coming from 11 Conference Champions, and 5 "At Large" teams selected by a commitee, just like basketball, and the teams will be seeded 1-16, with matchup occurring just as they do in March (1 vs. 16, etc.).

There are currently 4 BCS games, plus the National Championship. The 4 BCS sites will serve as host for the Semi's and National Championship (one site will be used for 2nd round), with the other current bowl sites serving as First and Second Round host.

The other current bowl games can still exist, but those teams would not be in the playoffs (consider it the NIT of football just not a tournament).

I know people will argue that the smaller conferences should not get a shot becasue they play a weak schedule, but to have a true champion everyone has to have an equal shot at winning the championship when the season starts, and with this method they could.

Here is how it would play out:
16 teams (8 games) - 8 Teams (4 games) - 4 Teams (2 games) -2 Teams (Championship)
